Project info:
This water-based photo contest, designed and executed by Agentic, was laid out by MEC and CPAWS to ask Canadians to submit their favorite photographs of Canada’s bodies of water. Every photo was submitted to an interactive map that showed where photographs had been taken across the country. Mountain Equipment Coop, along with their partner, the Canadian Parks and Wildnerness Society, invited users to share their photos of Canada’s oceans, rivers and lakes and show their support for protecting Canada’s marine habitats.

Each photo submitted to Big Wild, Big Water counted as one action towards “Dare to Be Deep,” MEC’s marine conservation initiative with CPAWS. The project saw over 1,600 breathtaking photo submissions, that participants could upload into one of two categories: scenic water photos and water activity photos.

Agentic worked with Capulet Communications to give participants a fun and collaborative view of our vast waterways by using a custom-themed Google Map of Canada. The project’s success has attracted the attention of contributers at Tech Soup Canada and acclaim at the Digital Strategy Conference.

Photo submissions were then broken down into groups of finalists, and judges chose 10 winning images. The awesome prizes included a weekend getaway in Banff, Alberta, and a $500 gift card to MEC, among others.
