A content rich community with an extensive e-commerce component for elementary school teachers in support of a widely used, research-backed teaching method.
Context
Elementary educators were (and are) under great pressure to provide quality education in challenging times. Responsive Classroom provides time-tested and research-proven strategies to create a more respectful, learning-focused, positive school client.
Organization
Northeast Foundation for Children (NEFC) about 40 full-time staff plus over 100 certified workshop presenters. They work with schools and districts to develop a safe environment for social and academic learning and reach 100,000 teachers per year through workshops, conferences, DVDs and books.
Challenge
The old website was ineffective at explaining the organization which led to confusion in audiences. The content was internally focused, did not serve their customers needs and had limited audience engagement.
Solution
The new site has an audience centered design for “Educators creating safe, challenging and joyful elementary schools”. Working closely with the client and a test group of teacher Site Leaders we developed a professional, lively, inviting space for educators to be introduced to, and become engaged with, Responsive Classroom. Clear and easy to navigate menus direct the identified audience segments to their personalized content areas. The powerful ecommerce system (Ubercart) was highly customized with features specific to NEFC’s needs.
Impact
The redesigned site was launched successfully to coincide with a new school year and the revitalized site led to surge in business and user visits. NEFC achieved $60k in events and book sales in one month and the feature article was viewed over 5,000 times in one month alone.
