Battle Castle Transmedia is our transmedia co-production that brings to life mighty medieval fortifications and the epic sieges they resist: clashes that defy the limits of military technology, turn empires to dust, and transform mortals into legends.
Battle Castle is a major transmedia property that contained an entire universe of medieval castles, weapons and stories. TV is one of the ultimate storytelling vehicles, and documentaries are a key way to tell important stories. So (now offline) included transmedia elements for a doc series on the world’s greatest castles and their impact on the world’s history.

The six part TV series, producer by Medieval Media Inc., has played all over the world, including Canada, the UK, the United States and Australia. Together with the online presence, they will give you the chance to explore how and why castles were constructed and how they were sieged.

On the site, you can watch videos, see motion graphic comics, meet the host Dan Snow, see behind-the-scenes photos and videos and keep up to date with the film crew’s progress and stories on the blog. The site has a whole new look and lots of fresh content, including an individual page for each Battle Castle episode that contains information about historical figures, castle facts, and a featured defensive structure.

It also has our Battle Castle Flash game online. The purpose of the game is to engage fans of Battle Castle in an informative and fun, flash-based game. As a light strategy game with a focus on “edutainment, ” it educates by presenting the player with idealized versions of Battle Castle’s six featured fortifications and mimic the development of siege warfare over time. Viewers participate in an online experience much like the ones to be depicted in the TV programs.

Playable in under 10-15 minutes, each level is designed so that it is more challenging than the preceding one. The castle presented possesses relatively stronger defensive features, and the player can gradually select from novel weaponry. Through the style of a casual strategy game, the objective is to siege six different castles in the most efficient way possible. Game elements will be as historically accurate as possible to appeal to the 25-49, male, tech savvy demographic of the TV show. These elements are also simplified enough to be engaging and accessible to an audience of varying levels of gaming experience.

Lastly, we also launched our historical fiction game, Masters of Constantinople, which proved to be both one of the most interesting and challenging components of the project. This rich HTML5 game allowed people to play as one of six characters that are immersed in our reconstructed world of the fall of Constantinople in 1453.
