Our work / Hazus Canada

Natural Resources Canada

The project:

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) Came to us after the launch of a similar project to develop a support portal for a loss estimation tool for natural hazards called Hazus. Used extensively in the United States, the program was now available in Canada. We developed this portal to support users in sharing information, best practices, and keeping up to date with the latest news about the program.

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has been adapting the US Hazus loss estimation tool for natural hazards, for use in Canada.  We made a number of resources for Hazus training are available online, such as introductory webinars, focused on earthquakes and floods.  The site is focused on professionals  engaged in risk management in a variety of communities, both in large urban areas and rural parts of Canada. As the project progressed, the Canadian version of the Hazus earthquake module, Hazus Canada v2.1, became available for download. Work is under way to adapt the flood module next.
