Web Presence and Online Engagement

As Agentic has built its expertise in working with larger organizations, many items arise that are similar in nature. In many of our clients, the notion of a single website for their organization was something that they often started with in the past. For example, ten years ago, many organizations did not have any websites online, and in the past ten years have struggled to create them. However, today, many other organizations that have started building websites ten years ago, have actually radically shifted the amount and tenor of their web properties today.

Value of Strategy

Important to many clients is the notion that their website should be built quickly, efficiently, and take into account as many future trends as possible. Yet most of these projects take place in a larger context. Understanding this context and placing the website within it is what we would refer to as strategy. And unfortunately, many of the projects that we get involved in don’t have a proper strategy, but we see the value of strategy.

Our support for Open Source - Thunderbird

Supporting open source is something we continue to try to do and even though often times we feel like we have a long way to go to give back, one recent piece we're pleased to help with is the new Spread Thunderbird site for Mozilla. http://spreadthunderbird.com/

It's a way that anyone can share the message of the countless hours of volunteer support that Thunderbird, which is the open source email program used by millions of people. It's a way that the openness on the web can be spread to everyone that might need it.

Hubert Florin is our talented designer and coder that designed the site, and hats off to the Mozilla Messenging team, especially Roland Tanglao for giving us this opportunity.

Melting Silos Development Project for Trans-media Content Projects

Agentic Communications, the National Film Board, and the SFU Praxis Centre for Screenwriters are launching the "Melting Silos" concept development program with the participation of Telefilm's Canada New Media Fund - Sectoral Assistance.
The goal of the Melting Silos Program is to connect local filmmakers and new media talent in a way that educates both parties and facilitates the development of project materials to be ready for production.
We're now seeking a small group of accomplished filmmakers and New Media production companies who would like to produce narrative web-based work.

I'm going to Web of Change
This year, I'm really looking forward to Web of Change and not only because we're a sponsor. It's a chance to connect with peers and learn more about what's what in the world of non-profit and technology. It's a way that we learn about new techniques, ideas, and ways of helping our clients. It's like a post-grad course in 5 days. Mucho thinking, but worth it. Adam will be attending with me so we can both learn how to push the edges of campaign innovation, collaborate better and learn how to be of service in our transformative new world!

Agentic Sponsorships this Year

Wow, looking back this year, I see we have sponsored quite a few projects and organizations. By far our biggest sponsorship was the TD Canada Trust Vancouver Jazz Festival this year, but we also sponsored Barcamp, DrupalCamp, Web of Change, Nootka Fine Arts School, BC Cancer Foundation, Duncan Hospice, and contributed time and work to the Wilderness Committee, Vision Vancouver, Living Oceans Society, and many more! We're happy to do it as we think it's another way to be involved in our community.

Agentic Defined

Came across this new definition of Agentic which I think is so fantastic: A "perspective that views people as self-organizing, proactive, self-reflecting and self-regulating, not just as reactive organisms shaped by environmental forces or driven by inner impulses."(Wikipedia)
It just means to me that people have human agency to make choices that can impact the world. We choose deliberately to work with social value organizations because we think that this is the way we can assist in helping the world.
